FROM MOLECULAR DEVELOPMENTAL BIOLOGY TO BIOMEDICINE, EVOLUTION
AND SYSTEMS BIOLOGY
UNIVERSITY OF MAASTRICHT
The research in the division Developmental Biology is devoted
to genetics and reproduction on the one hand and pregnancy
and child on the other. In this division reproductive medicine,
foetal and perinatal medicine go hand in hand, which gives
a lot of new opportunities with respect to longitudinal approaches
and the study of long term consequences.Quite a number of
research questions that are addressed in the Division Developmental
Biology are linked to studies that are done within the Division
Oncology. For example similar methods are used in the fields
of genetics, epigenetics and genomics or similar problems
are studied like angiogenesis, apoptosis and hypoxia.
Fertility (Dr. J.A. Land and Prof.dr. J. Evers)
Early Embryonic Development (Dr. J. Dumoulin and Dr. H.
Epigenetics and Gene Expression (Dr. JW. Voncken)
Clinical Genetics (Prof. C. Schrander-Stumpel and Dr. B.
Genital Tract (Dr. P. Groothuis and Dr. G. Dunselman)
Maternal Physiology (Dr. L. Peeters)
The Oncology Division incorporates research projects conducted
within the Faculty of Medicine, the University Hospital of
Maastricht and the MAASTRO Clinic. The aims of this division
are on the one hand to gain insights into the basic biology
of the cancer process, and on the other to develop new therapeutic
strategies based on concepts developed in the laboratory.
Three major research lines can be distinguished within the
Oncology Division in which several research groups are working.
Skin diseases (Prof. P. Steijlen)
Tumour Phenotype (Prof. F. Ramaekers, B. Schutte)
Cancer (cyto)Genetics (Dr. E. Speel)
Cancer Genetics and Epigenetics (Prof.
A. de Bruïne)
DNA Repair (Prof. B. Wouters)
EGFR (Dr. G. Lammering)
Angiogenesis & Tumour Hypoxia
Hypoxia and Gene Therapy (Prof. B. Wouters)
Angiogenesis (Prof. A. Griffioen)
Haematology/Cell Therapy ( Dr. G. Bos)
Breast (Prof.dr. V. Tjan-Heijnen)
Lung (Dr. D. de Ruysscher)
