FROM MOLECULAR DEVELOPMENTAL BIOLOGY TO BIOMEDICINE, EVOLUTION
AND SYSTEMS BIOLOGY
UNIVERSITY OF LISBON
Experimental evolution covers studies
of evolution in real time. The following topics will
be covered :characterizing and testing processes
and mechanisms that shape different evolutionary patterns,
experimental evolution in natural versus laboratory
populations, variability of model organisms used for
evolutionnary studies and specific potential of each.
Illustrative examples of evolutionnary questions (evolution
of ageing, evolution of sex, the effect of effective
population size on adaptability….). Presentation
of a case followed by the research team in which the
students will participate during the practical course.
